Scarborough and Portland are  located in Cumberland County, Maine’s most populous county. The area is known as the Portland Metro region and it is one of the most exciting and fastest growing areas for of its size in the country.

The Town of Scarborough has created the Scarborough Economic Development Corporation. This is a quasi-municipal non-profit development corporation providing site location, business and economic development as well as government liaison services for individuals and businesses seeking to either create a new investment opportunity in Scarborough or expand an existing one. It was incorporated in 1985 to enhance Scarborough’s ability to attract part of the new wave of industrial and commercial enterprises locating in Southern Maine. 

The Corporation provides its services for free and is administered by a highly professional staff. Services include information and databases on Scarborough and Greater Portland demographics, current land and building inventory, economic and business trends, community development information, financial assistance programs, growth patterns and maps, industrial sites and data and traffic studies, all of which is vital to business decision makers interested in expanding or locating in Scarborough. In recent years SEDCO worked with over 90 companies who were looking to relocate or expand existing businesses in Scarborough. Their efforts have caused the Scarborough Industrial Park to boom with new businesses, buildings and even a new on ramp to the Maine Turnpike via Haigis Parkway. The Scarborough Economic Development Corporation is devoted to making doing business as profitable and straight forward as possible.
